y648

Hi book beauties!  I am back with another amazing novel and beauty giveaway.  This week I am so excited to be able to feature Hazel Gaynor’s new book The Girl From Savoy as well as the perfect kit to a flawless summer manicure from Julep.  This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.  Head over to my Instagram page to see how to enter!  Good luck 🙂

The Girl From Savoy by Hazel Gaynor via Goodreads

Presenting a dazzling new historical novel … The Girl From The Savoy is as sparkling as champagne and as thrilling as the era itself.

Sometimes life gives you cotton stockings. Sometimes it gives you a Chanel gown …

Dolly Lane is a dreamer; a downtrodden maid who longs to dance on the London stage, but her life has been fractured by the Great War. Memories of the soldier she loved, of secret shame and profound loss, by turns pull her back and spur her on to make a better life.

When she finds employment as a chambermaid at London’s grandest hotel, The Savoy, Dolly takes a step closer to the glittering lives of the Bright Young Things who thrive on champagne, jazz and rebellion. Right now, she must exist on the fringes of power, wealth and glamor—she must remain invisible and unimportant.

But her fortunes take an unexpected turn when she responds to a struggling songwriter’s advertisement for a ‘muse’ and finds herself thrust into London’s exhilarating theatre scene and into the lives of celebrated actress, Loretta May, and her brother, Perry. Loretta and Perry may have the life Dolly aspires to, but they too are searching for something.

Now, at the precipice of the life she has and the one she longs for, the girl from The Savoy must make difficult choices: between two men; between two classes, between everything she knows and everything she dreams of. A brighter future is tantalizingly close—but can a girl like Dolly ever truly leave her past behind?

The Outliers

Wylie hasn’t heard from Cassie in over a week, not since their last fight. But that doesn’t matter. Cassie’s in trouble, so Wylie decides to do what she has done so many times before: save her best friend from herself.

This time it’s different, though. Instead of telling Wylie where she is, Cassie sends cryptic clues. And instead of having Wylie come by herself, Jasper shows up saying Cassie sent him to help. Trusting the guy who sent Cassie off the rails doesn’t feel right, but Wylie has no choice: she has to ignore her gut instinct and go with him.

But figuring out where Cassie is goes from difficult to dangerous, fast. As Wylie and Jasper head farther and farther north into the dense woods of Maine, Wylie struggles to control her growing sense that something is really wrong. What isn’t Cassie telling them? And could finding her be only the beginning?

*Spotlight & Giveaway* Live Fast, Die Hot by Jenny Mollen

I first fell in love with Jenny Mollen on Chelsea Lately, the former Chelsea Handler talk show.  She was blunt, honest and hilarious but still the girl you wanted to grab a drink with.  Then she became pregnant around the same time I did and her hilarious Instagram pics and Tweets were the perfect remedy to the long nine months that pregnancy is.  Our kids were born pretty close, 2 days apart, and we both underwent C-Sections so my post- part was lightened by her “Mom” posts that were all too true and hysterical.  To share the Jenny Mollen love and celebrate her newest book, Live Fast, Die Hot– I am giving away a copy to one lucky reader.  In this newest book Mollen shares the eye opening experience of becoming a mother and the funny, touching and real moments that come with that.  All you have to do to enter to win is comment below or head over to Instagram and comment on my post!  Open to US residents only!  Good luck 🙂 (full review of book to come)

via Goodreads

Hi, I’m Jenny Mollen. I’m a writer and actress living in New York with a husband, two dogs, and a baby. When I got married, I made all sorts of vows and promises, some of which I intended to keep (and others I just said in the moment to make my husband come faster). My life was exciting, sexy, and ever so slightly eccentric, with a man who fully embraced my crazy. He understood my need to occasionally stalk his ex-girlfriend or wear her old beach caftans around our house. He showed compassion when I got kicked off of jury duty for accidentally befriending the defendant over lunch break. He even found it sweet when I invited our drug dealer to Passover seder so he didn’t think we were only using him for drugs.

Then we had our son, Sid, and overnight, the fun-loving woman-child that my husband fell in love with was banished from our home. It was time to grow up, to be responsible, to brush my hair, to take vitamins, to send holiday cards, to listen to my voicemail. But what if I didn’t want any of those things? What if I wasn’t ready to be a role model because I still envisioned being discovered at the mall and becoming a real model? (Or at the very least a Top Model.) Sure, I was thirty-five but my boobs were only eighteen.

This book is about how terrifying and maddening it is to love something more than yourself. It addresses the important questions that all women face: Have I done enough with my life? How do I break up with my dogs now that I’ve met someone new? Is it weird to draw eyebrows on a baby? Is my house haunted? Will taking ayahuasca in Peru affect my son’s chances of getting into preschool?

Live Fast Die Hot is an unapologetic look at life after thirty, when I realized that maybe being terrified of responsibility just means that I actually care. And if so, I’m at least halfway there—right?

All Summer Long

via Goodreads

Filled with her trademark wit, poignant themes, and rich characters, the perennial New York Times bestselling author returns with a sensational novel that follows the travels of a one couple though a tumultuous summer.

Dorothea Benton Frank’s magical stories take us deep into the heart of her beloved Carolina Lowcountry. In her novels, this lush landscape comes alive in all its vibrancy and color. She ignites all of our senses with her vivid descriptions of landscape and atmosphere. In her novels you hear the ocean washing the shore on different islands so profoundly that you can nearly hear the sea gulls squawking too.

This is a story of people whose lives are changing—a southern gentleman returning home to lead a more peaceful life and his talented New York wife who is not quite sure she is ready to make the transition. They are moving north to south, fast pace vs slow pace, downsizing. And while they are doing this, they are getting glimpses into other people’s lives over the course of a summer, holidays that will amuse, shock and transform them.

This irresistible story is home to captivating characters as funny, complicated, and real as our best friends—husbands and wives, mothers and daughters, friends and family who wrestle with the complexities, pain, and joys familiar to us all.

Finally, we’ll come to recognize the face of love, the kind that deepens and endures but only because one woman makes a tremendous leap of faith. That leap changes them all.

All the Single Ladies

via Goodreads

The perennial New York Times bestselling author returns with an emotionally resonant novel that illuminates the power of friendship in women’s lives, and is filled with her trademark wit, poignant and timely themes, sassy, flesh-and-blood characters, and the steamy Southern atmosphere and beauty of her beloved Carolina Lowcountry.

Few writers capture the complexities, pain, and joy of relationships—between friends, family members, husbands and wives, or lovers—as beloved New York Times bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank. In this charming, evocative, soul-touching novel, she once again takes us deep into the heart of the magical Lowcountry where three amazing middle-aged women are bonded by another amazing woman’s death.

Through their shared loss they forge a deep friendship, asking critical questions. Who was their friend and what did her life mean? Are they living the lives they imagined for themselves? Will they ever be able to afford to retire? How will they maximize their happiness? Security? Health? And ultimately, their own legacies?

A plan is conceived and unfurls with each turn of the tide during one sweltering summer on the Isle of Palms. Without ever fully realizing how close they were to the edge, they finally triumph amid laughter and maybe even newfound love.

via Goodreads

Some people stay all summer long on the idyllic island of Belle Isle, North Carolina. Others come only for the weekends-and the mix between the regulars and “the weekenders” can sometimes make the sparks fly. Riley Griggs has a season of good times with friends and family ahead of her on Belle Isle when things take an unexpected turn. While waiting for her husband to arrive on the ferry one Friday afternoon, Riley is confronted by a process server who thrusts papers into her hand. And her husband is nowhere to be found.

So she turns to her island friends for help and support, but it turns out that each of them has their own secrets, and the clock is ticking as the mystery deepens…in a murderous way. Cocktail parties aside, Riley must find a way to investigate the secrets of Belle Island, the husband she might not really know, and the summer that could change everything.

Told with Mary Kay Andrews’ trademark blend of humor and warmth, and with characters and a setting that you can’t help but fall for, The Weekenders is the perfect summer escape.

Greer Hennessy needs palm trees.

As a movie location scout, picture-perfect is the name of the game. But her last project literally went up in flames, and her career is on the verge of flaming out. Greer has been given one more chance, if she can find the perfect undiscovered beach hideaway for a big-budget movie. She zeroes in on a sleepy Florida panhandle town called Cypress Key. There’s one motel, a marina, a long stretch of pristine beach and an old fishing pier with a community casino-which will be perfect for the film’s explosive climax.

There’s just one problem. Eben Thibadeaux, the town mayor, completely objects to Greer’s plan. A lifelong resident of Cypress Key, Eben wants the town to be revitalized, not commercialized. After a toxic paper plant closed, the bay has only recently been reborn, and Eb has no intention of letting anybody screw with his town again. But Greer has a way of making things happen, regardless of obstacles. And Greer and Eb are way too attracted to each other for either of them to see reason.

Between an ambitious director and his entourage-including a spoiled “It Boy” lead actor-who parachute into town, a conniving local ex-socialite, and a cast of local fangirls and opportunists who catch the movie bug, nothing is going to be the same in Cypress Key. Now Greer is forced to make some hard choices: about the people and the town she’s come to care about, and about her own life. True love is only for the movies, right? Can Greer find a way to be the heroine in her own life story? Told with inimitable heart and humor, Mary Kay Andrews’ Beach Town is the perfect summer destination.

Fabulous Book and Beauty Giveaway with The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza

knockoff

In celebration of one of my MOST favorite 2015 releases, The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza, I am giving away a  brand new copy of the book and the new Lengthening Mascara by Beautycounter.  Both released this past week!  Almost one year ago I posted my love for the book and its hard cover release.  I am reposting that post for you to see how much I adored Imogen and the world of The Knockoff.  Basically the perfect beach read if there ever was one.  I also am so excited about this new, amazing mascara from Beautycounter that was years in the making!  It truly works and provides lush, long lashes.  Both up for grabs for all my blissful readers.  To see how to enter please head over to my Facebook page here and you can find all the rules!

The story centers around Imogen who is the head of Glossy magazine, a fabulous high fashion magazine in New york City.  Imogen is returning back to work after leaving on medical leave due to cancer.  Upon her return her former assistant Eve is at the forefront, ready to take Glossy into the digital and tech age.  Imogen, open to the possibility and change for the magazine, is taken aback by Eve and the woman she has become.  Eve who was her perky, fun assistant is now a snarky, condescending, “B-School” grad who is heading up the digital change for the magazine.  A seasoned fashion and magazine professional, Imogen is thrown into the world of Tweets and Facebook posts, something she doesn’t really know much about.  This is exactly the achilles heel Eve is looking for.  Imogen looks like the novice as Eve takes the lead and turns Glossy into a fashion and magazine nightmare.  Luckily for Imogen, her years of the fashion world come to her rescue when she needs them most.

Sykes and Piazza take you into a world of tech and fashion- two things that are always on the rise.  I loved Imogen from the start and was #teamImogen the whole way through.  I love books that have a heroine at the center who you are cheering for at every word.  I also loved the theme of career and family and creating balance, something most woman deal with.  It is not easy but at the end of the day you do what is best for you and your family and right there you are successful.  I am hoping either for a sequel to this book or promise that Sykes and Piazza will team up again.  They are the perfect duo to kick off beach season and my “Blissful Beach Bag” picks!  Happy BEACH reading!

Every Anxious Wave by Mo Daviau

via Goodreads:

Good guy Karl Bender is a thirty-something bar owner whose life lacks love and meaning. When he stumbles upon a time-travelling worm hole in his closet, Karl and his best friend Wayne develop a side business selling access to people who want to travel back in time to listen to their favorite bands. It’s a pretty ingenious plan, until Karl, intending to send Wayne to 1980, transports him back to 980 instead. Though Wayne sends texts extolling the quality of life in tenth century “Mannahatta,” Karl is distraught that he can’t bring his friend back.

Enter brilliant, prickly, overweight astrophysicist, Lena Geduldig. Karl and Lena’s connection is immediate. While they work on getting Wayne back, Karl and Lena fall in love — with time travel, and each other. Unable to resist meddling with the past, Karl and Lena bounce around time. When Lena ultimately prevents her own long-ago rape, she alters the course of her life and threatens her future with Karl.

A high-spirited and engaging novel, Mo Daviau’s EVERY ANXIOUS WAVE plays ball with the big questions of where we would go and who we would become if we could rewrite our pasts, as well as how to hold on to love across time.

The Violinist of Venice by Alyssa Palumbo ~ via Goodreads

A sweeping historical novel of composer and priest Antonio Vivaldi, a secret wealthy mistress, and their passion for music and each other

Like most 18th century Venetians, Adriana d’Amato adores music-except her strict merchant father has forbidden her to cultivate her gift for the violin. But she refuses to let that stop her from living her dreams and begins sneaking out of her family’s palazzo under the cover of night to take violin lessons from virtuoso violinist and composer Antonio Vivaldi. However, what begins as secret lessons swiftly evolves into a passionate, consuming love affair.

Adriana’s father is intent on seeing her married to a wealthy, prominent member of Venice’s patrician class-and a handsome, charming suitor, whom she knows she could love, only complicates matters-but Vivaldi is a priest, making their relationship forbidden in the eyes of the Church and of society. They both know their affair will end upon Adriana’s marriage, but she cannot anticipate the events that will force Vivaldi to choose between her and his music. The repercussions of his choice-and of Adriana’s own choices-will haunt both of their lives in ways they never imagined.

Spanning more than 30 years of Adriana’s life, Alyssa Palombo’s The Violinist of Venice is a story of passion, music, ambition, and finding the strength to both fall in love and to carry on when it ends.

Eager to be an obedient daughter, Margot accepts her role as a marriage pawn, even as she is charmed by the powerful, charismatic Duc de Guise. Though Margot’s heart belongs to Guise, her hand will be offered to Henri of Navarre, a Huguenot leader and a notorious heretic looking to seal a tenuous truce. But the promised peace is a mirage: her mother’s schemes are endless, and her brothers plot vengeance in the streets of Paris. Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica and a BOOK GIVEAWAY

Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica

i just finished Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica which has been on all the best books of the summer lists and now I know why.  I have not read her other novel, I know, The Good Girl but it is sitting in my TBR pile and I am excited to start it.  Mary is a phenomenal writer and this book was nothing short of fantastic.  I love a good summer thriller and this one was especially sweet because I haven’t read one in a while.  From the fast-paced, twist and turns to the complex web of a storyline it is without a doubt my ninth “Blissful Beach Bag” pick.

Heidi is married to Chris and they have a daughter Zoe.  They live a pretty normal life.  Everyday when Heidi goes to work she sees this young girl and her baby.  The baby is always in distress and the young girl, presumably the mother, is always disheveled and absent looking.  Heidi knows they need food and shelter.  She decides that she will offer her home to them and provide some warmth and care to the baby.  Meanwhile her husband is struggling to stay faithful and their daughter is in the tumultuous teen years.  The young mother, Willow, and her baby Ruby, accept Heidi’s offer of food and a roof over their head.  Chris, skeptical, is determined to find out who Willow is and why she is without a home.  He wonders what secrets she may be hiding.  Zoe wants nothing to do with them and thinks her mother is crazy to take them in.  But Heidi shelves her fear that Willow is someone harmful and takes comfort in this precious little baby.  Heidi is battling her own demons from past pregnancy issues so this baby is just what she needs.  Heidi eventually starts to question Willow and what her back story is.  Heidi becomes obsessed with Ruby and old wounds began to open.  Lines start to blur and the reader starts to wonder who is putting who at jeopardy Heidi or Willow?

This book is everything you would want in a nail-biting summer read.  Just when the reader thinks they have figured it out Kubica throws in another twist.  The content was deep but the writing was so fluid that the pages just flew.  I loved each character the complexities they brought to the story.  This being Kubica’s second novel she is just getting started and I am excited to see what other stories she has to tell!  absolutely run out and grab this book.  You will not be disappointed.
