Thrilled to have the legendary and most fabulous Sally Hepworth on the blog today!  I adore her and her books (she has been a past Bookish Beauty gal) and am honored to be celebrating the book birthday of her latest novel, The Mother-In-Law.  Read below about this domestic thriller that is perfect for your spring break as well as Sally’s dream book club (its AMAZE), latest reads and favorite Insta account 🙂

MOTHER IN LAW

via Amazon ~

A twisty, compelling new novel about one woman’s complicated relationship with her mother-in-law that ends in death…

From the moment Lucy met her husband’s mother, she knew she wasn’t the wife Diana had envisioned for her perfect son. Exquisitely polite, friendly, and always generous, Diana nonetheless kept Lucy at arm’s length despite her desperate attempts to win her over. And as a pillar in the community, an advocate for female refugees, and a woman happily married for decades, no one had a bad word to say about Diana…except Lucy.

That was five years ago.

Now, Diana is dead, a suicide note found near her body claiming that she longer wanted to live because of the cancer wreaking havoc inside her body.

But the autopsy finds no cancer.

It does find traces of poison, and evidence of suffocation.

Who could possibly want Diana dead? Why was her will changed at the eleventh hour to disinherit both of her children, and their spouses? And what does it mean that Lucy isn’t exactly sad she’s gone?

Fractured relationships and deep family secrets grow more compelling with every page in this twisty, captivating new novel from Sally Hepworth.

Praise for Sally Hepworth:

“Hepworth deftly keeps the reader turning pages and looking for clues, all the while building multilayered characters and carefully doling out bits of their motivations.” ―Booklist

Where the Crawdads Sing.

Do you have a teacher who encouraged you to become a writer?

Yes. My third and seventh grade English teachers were both incredibly encouraging.

No. I work at the library so I listen to the quiet chatter of people in the aisles, or people asking librarians for recommendations. Best music in the world.

What’s in my Bookish {Beauty} Bag? ~ Camille Pagan

Weekend ready over here at Bliss, Beauty and Books and what’s better than a fabulous read?  Well a peak into a fabulous author’s bag 🙂  I am so excited to have Camille Pagan, author of many AH-mazing books on the blog today.  Pagan’s latest novel ~ Forever is the Worst Long Time came out in February with wonderful reviews but you also may know her from The Art of Forgetting or the Kindle best-seller, Life and other Near-Death Experiences which was optioned for film by Jessica Chastain.  I am so happy she opened her chic leather tote for us that is filled with ridiculously gorgeous beauty products!

Forever is the Worst Long Time

via Amazon

From acclaimed author Camille Pagán comes a wry, heartfelt exploration of love and loss.

When struggling novelist James Hernandez meets poet Louisa “Lou” Bell, he’s sure he’s just found the love of his life. There’s just one problem: she’s engaged to his oldest friend, Rob. So James toasts their union and swallows his desire.

As the years pass, James’s dreams always seem just out of reach—he can’t finish that novel, can’t mend his relationship with his father, can’t fully commit to a romantic relationship. He just can’t move on. But after betrayal fractures Lou’s once-solid marriage, she turns to James for comfort.

When Lou and James act on their long-standing mutual attraction, the consequences are more heartbreaking—and miraculous—than either of them could have ever anticipated. Then life throws James one more curveball, and he, Rob, and Lou are forced to come to terms with the unexpected ways in which love and loss are intertwined.

What is your bag of choice?

I own the purse pictured in navy and black because I love it so much. It’s Olieve and though it looks small, I can fit everything and the kitchen sink in it.

What are your top favorite beauty picks?

I’m pretty pale—and Michigan winters don’t help—so I almost always put a little blush on to look less washed out. My current go-to is Tarte’s Desire cheek stain.

I also love Urban Decay’s Naked Basics eyeshadow palate; I use the pearly pink-white (“Venus”) on the inside of my eyes to look awake after I’ve been up too late writing or caring for one of my kids. (In a pinch, the shadow doubles as a cheek highlighter, too).

And right now, I’m obsessed with Glossier’s Generation G Lipstick, which is like a balm, stain, and lipstick all in one. I own three different shades; Crush is my favorite.

What do you always carry in your bag/purse/carry-on for beauty products?

I always have Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream with me; my grandmother told me about it literally decades ago, and it’s still the single best hand cream I’ve ever used. (It’s great for chapped lips and dry elbows, too.)

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading an early copy of Meg Mitchell Moore’s THE CAPTAIN’S DAUGHTER, which is so good! Moore’s novels are super smart yet completely escapist; you know when you open one you’re not going to come up for air until you’ve reached the end. I’ve also just started Yaa Gyasi’s HOMEGOING, which is a multi-generational novel that promises to be every bit as phenomenal as I’ve heard it is.

And any other fun item/must-have that you always have with you?

Tweezers! Not just for my hard-to-tame brows, but also because with a six- and eight-year-old, I always seem to have some reason (splinters! Craft projects!) to use them.
